Meta said it will stop developing its Workplace enterprise platform to shift its focus to AI products and pursue the virtual metaverse.
Workplace will officially close from June 2026 according to Meta's announcement this week.
“We are shutting down Workplace to focus on building AI and the metaverse, technologies that we believe will fundamentally reshape the way we work,” a Meta spokesperson said. “Over the next two years, we will offer Workplace customers the option to migrate to Workvivo by Zoom.”

The Workplace business communication platform was first introduced by Facebook (now Meta) in 2016. Two years before that, Meta used it internally.
Workplace currently offers a monthly plan priced at $4 per user, upgradeable with add-ons, from $2 per user per month.
Meta said it will offer a 50% discount on the service starting in September until discontinued.
According to TechCrunch, Workplace growth has slowed significantly after the pandemic, as users returned to the office.
