Meta said the Messenger messaging app for MacOS and Windows will stop working from December 15, encouraging users to "delete as soon as possible".
"If you are using the Messenger application on your computer, you will receive a notification. You will have 60 days left and will be blocked after this time," a Meta representative told TechCrunch. “We recommend deleting the app, as it is about to become unusable.”

According to Meta, after December 15, users cannot log in to the Messenger application for macOS and Windows.
The company also encourages users to enable secure storage and set up a PIN to save chat history before switching to the web version. Setting (头像上方) > Privacy & Safety > End-to-end encrypted chat > Message storage to see features Enable secure storage activated or not.
Meta first tested Messenger on Windows 7 in 2011. In April 2016, the social network brought the application to the Microsoft Store, designed for the Windows 10 operating system. By 2020, the complete Messenger version was available for both Windows and macOS.
According to TechRadar, Meta's "death" of Messenger on Windows and macOS may cause mixed reactions from loyalists. The application is considered to be more stable than the web version, as well as avoiding "distraction" when chatting and viewing content on social networks.
